Honouring an invitation to the Alliance Française de Gaborone on behalf of our CEO and Founder, Ms. Kemmy Mpinang, Ms. Kutlo Kadise represented the Foundation and spoke to the importance of storytelling as a tool for advocacy against gender-based violence.
Storytelling empowers survivors of GBV by helping them find their own voice. Films such as *LERATO* by Wendile Laba play an important role in dismantling the harmful cultural norms and narratives that surround gender-based violence.
Ms. Mpinang is herself a survivor of GBV who transformed pain into purpose through storytelling and authorship. There is a strong parallel between her books and the broader conversation around prevention and awareness.
Her book *Different but Equal*, presented during the event, serves as an early-intervention tool that teaches children life skills and behaviours that protect them socially and emotionally. Her second book, *The Journey*, takes us through what happens when society fails to have early conversations about GBV, and the consequences that follow when silence replaces education.
